Power supplies: choose PSU over linear
Power supplies are able to run constant voltage which is needed by numerous electronic products that are found in the market now a day. Their job actually is to stabilize the voltage. Usually these are divided into 2 different categories namely the switching power supplies and the linear power supply. You will generally find that the linear is an uncomplicated device but it does tend to gain in size when the thing is needed to manage high voltages. These linear power supply units are generally not popular as they are regarded as quite inefficient because of their requirement of a larger main frequency transformer & heat shrink.
Quite opposite to the linear power supply units, a switch mode PSU having the same kind of rating that a linear has is much smaller compared to the linear and it is undoubtedly more efficient than the linear power supply at doing the same job. The linear power supply is more costly and the installation is not very easy and requires space simply because of its size. But a PSU will cost less and will be more efficient and also the operating and installation will be much easier when compared to the linear power supplies.
